
St. Joseph’s Kamuli School of Midwifery and Nursing is situated in Kamuli District, Kamuli Municipality Northern Division, Bukabale Village with a distance of 2km from Kamuli Town along Lubaga Mission Road. The School was founded in 1950 as a nursing assistants’ training school and was upgraded to enrolled midwifery in 1962.
In 2006 comprehensive nursing program was introduced as a mandate by the government of Uganda at the time as we continued with midwifery. In 2012 another transition took place where by we dropped comprehensive nursing and look on certificate in nursing as we continued with certificate in midwifery.
However the school together with other development partners in an effort to improve on the quality of professional midwives we went a head to start Diploma in Midwifery Extension program in may 2014 and has so far passed out 36 diploma midwives. The HTI currently runs runs three programs run for duration of 2.5 years while Diploma In midwifery Extension runs for 1.5 years. the capacity of the school has over the years increased to 20% of the old population and this is attributed to the increase in demand in the health professional
